The Kagan Award award was established in 1977, in memory of Dr. David B. Kagan, a long-time Pittsfield Rotarian and community citizen. The award is presented annually and beginning in 1978 has been given to one female and one male from the Central Berkshire area to recognize volunteerism "above and beyond" the call of duty. The recipients represent the highest standards of the Judeo-Christian ethic, which is the basis of the award. This years awards went to Joe Torra and Anne Pasko. Joe has spent many years as mentor for business students from PHS and Taconic hiring them as employees so they could see how business runs first hand. He also has been active donating his sound and lighting systems to schools and Downtown Inc. Anne is a successful businesswoman who has donated her time to many different causes to include Lanesboro Elementary school computer lab, Pittsfield Garden tour, Barrington Stage, Artscape, antheneum, and downtown inc. Along with their award each was given a $200 stipend to donate to the charity of their choice.
The Rotary Club of Pittsfield has the honor of being the volunteer service organization to assist with the opening night of Shakespeare in the Park! We need at least 8 volunteers so please let see Kelly Marion if you are able to assist that evening. The following is the information on what we need to do:
Your eight organization volunteers should plan to arrive at the First Street Common by 6:45pm, and expect to stay until the end of the performance, around 10:30. They will be assigned to one of the following tasks:
helping guests park cars and directing them to the performance location (2 volunteers)
collecting ticket donations and handing out programs (3 volunteers)
ushering: helping audience members find space on the lawn in the appropriate seating sections, directing them to the restrooms, and making sure park rules related to smoking and alcohol are followed (2 volunteers)
counting the number of audience members who attend the performance using a mechanical tally (1 volunteer)
This should be a great opportunity to provide a service to our community so I would encourage you to volunteer with me.
We need volunteers to do the 5:00 - 7:00 PM shift at First Baptist Church for Feed the Sheep. The later shift serves the meal; washes the dishes and pots & pans, cleans up the kitchen and dining room, puts the chairs away and takes out the trash. Hope you can join us.
Gabriela Keator spoke to the club about a safer way for kids to trick or treat with the Trunk-or-Treat event held at Herberg Middle School where kids can be in a safe enviroment and get treats from decorated car trunks. Donation forms will be available on the clubrunner page for those that are interested
